One of Africa’s most daring leaders of his generation, Bidian has a successful track record of advocacy, influencing policy frameworks and impact across the African continent. Bidian is a thinker and a solution-oriented trailblazer who is passionate about championing innovative approaches in addressing grand challenges of sexual reproductive health rights and gender-based violence among youth.

Bidian is the Co-founder and Head of Advocacy at the Reproductive and Sexual Health Programme for Kenyan Teenagers (RESPEKT), a youth-led organization founded on the premise of advocating for Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights (SRHR) in Kenya through a rights-based approach and the use of evidence-based impact reporting on our research in the sector. RESPEKT also advocates for the inclusion of a certified SRHR curriculum in high schools in Kenya.

Bidian’s curiosity in designing youth programs and advocating for youth-led policy frameworks has catapulted him to serve in capacities at county levels, national, regional and international.

Bidian served as a technical support advisor for the Organizing Committee of the Africa Health Agenda International Conference (AHAIC) Youth Pre-Conference 2019. He serves as a member of Nairobi County Health Budget Advocates under the Evidence for Action Mama Ye Kenya (E4A_MamaYe) and also as a member of the Kenya Healthcare Students Symposium (KEHSS) Advisory Board that he joined in April 2019.

He is the outgoing Chairperson of the Youth Advisory Panel (YAP) of the Department for International Development (DFID) of the British High Commission. In this capacity, Bidian provided advisory to DFID on structuring and execution of their programs from a youth-centric approach. Bidian is the current National Coordinator of Onward Kenya, a social youth platform that mobilizes youth to be active involved in creating social change. He is also a Youth Representative in charge of citizen mobilization at the Multi-Sectoral Initiative Against Corruption.

Across the globe, Bidian has served as a member of the Commonwealth Youth Council, Policy and Advocacy Committee and is the immediate former National Delegate representing Kenyan Youth at the Commonwealth Head of Government Meeting 2018 (CHOGM 2018). Bidian was part of the team that passed and approved the recommendations and work plan of the Youth Council for 2018-2020.

In 2015, Bidian served as a committee member for the 2015/16 Kenyatta University Vice Chancellor’s Committee on Stop Sexual and Gender Based Violence, as well as a National Officer on Reproductive Health, Sexual Education and AIDS at Medical Students Association of Kenya in the same period.

His ultimate goal is to transform Africa’s health sector by expanding the discourse of holistic youth inclusion at the highest levels of decision making across the continent.
